Books Luke Likes - 4 1/2

My baby is 4½ which is getting awfully close to 5.  I feel like I look at him every day and wonder where my baby went.  Before and after our beach trip last week we were watching videos from our first beach trip with him, when he was about 2½ and ADORABLE.  It doesn't feel that long ago but, somehow, he's grown so much.

There are plenty of benefits to him growing up, being out of the diaper stage, taking care of his own bathroom business, having (mostly) real conversations, not needing constant supervision, and a longer attention span.

A couple times a week I try to sit down with him and a pile of library books and we've come across so many lovely ones.  Here are some recent favorites!

Sergio Makes a Splash by Edel Rodriguez
Sergio is on a class trip to the ocean but can't swim.  Will he face his fears to join in the fun?  Definitely appropriate with our recent trip!

Bernice Gets Carried Away by Hannah E. Harrison
I definitely judge books by their cover and I wasn't blown away by this one.  Plus, I'm not a cat person (or animal person) BUT it turned out to be a super sweet story about finding good in the bad and staying positive.

Pete & Pickles by Berkeley Breathed
Luke LOVED this one about a pig and elephant who become unlikely friends.  I had to answer SO many questions about why they were doing this or that (like why the elephant broke the bathtub).  A good reminder to step outside our comfort zones once in awhile.

Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall
Jabari is going to the pool with his family and all the kids are jumping off the high dive.  Can Jabari overcome his fears and do it too?  This one was really sweet and stuck around a few weeks.

Escargot by Dashka Slater
Escargot is a snail who likes the finer things in life but know who doesn't like Escargot?  Most people.  Nobody picks snails to be their favorite animal.  But maybe you should because this one seems rather sweet.  (If I found a snail wearing a tiny beret I might change my mind on not being an animal person.)

What good picture books have you read lately??  (I'm assuming everyone reads picture books...I realize that's probably not the life stage everyone is in.)
