Books Luke Likes - 4¾ years

Have you heard of the 1,000 books by kindergarten project?  My sister told me about it a few years ago and I thought it sounded doable, sure we could read 1,000 books in 5+ years, especially if I could count the (approximately) 100 times I've read The Little Blue Truck (that's not much of an exaggeration, I spent 6 weeks on crutches when Luke was 18 months and we read that 5 times a day, most days).   I've been tracking all the books I've read Luke since he was a baby and we're around  900 so my goal is to hit 1,000 different books by kindergarten.  I might be slightly trying to force my love of reading on my kid...

The next time I do one of these posts Luke will be 5.  FIVE.  No, I'm not crying!  It's dusty in here...

1) Even Super Heroes Have Bad Days by Shelly Becker
Luke has been ALL about super heroes lately.  He has a couple costumes we got on Halloween clearance as well as a super hero cape (made by his godmother) and mask.  He wears at least one of these most days.  So this book about how even Super Heroes have bad days is right up his alley.  I appreciated the message and he loves any stories about the "good guys".  I might be sale stalking it now.

2) Dough Knights and Dragons by Dee Leone
Who doesn't like donuts, I mean, really?  Especially fresh donuts made by a knight and a dragon to stop them from having to fight each other?  Could more donuts be the solution to world peace (probably not) but constant sugar might keep the disagreements between parents and kids down...  Regardless, cute story, I liked their problem solving.

3) The Koala Who Could by Rachel Bright
Luke liked this one so much he has declared koalas to be his favorite animal after lemurs.  Which is high praise, especially considering he's never seen a koala in the flesh (fur?).  This koala doesn't want to leave his comfy tree to hang out on the ground with his friends.  Maybe he just needs a little push? (And maybe there was a little lesson in there for this introvert...although not in the winter...I don't want to leave my house any more than necessary when it's cold...I might need that push too.)

4) Black Belt Bunny by Jacky Davis 
Along with super heroes, Luke has been interested in karate and his own made-up martial art he just started "teaching" us in the kitchen one night.  My husband has his black belt in karate so there is some precedence to this interest (although, he got that and stopped classes more than a year before we got Luke).   This bunny has to use his karate skills to expand his culinary tastes a little...maybe another lesson for the picky eater here (me, although I might be influencing Luke on that one...)

5) There's a Monster in Your Book by Tom Fletcher 
Similar to the classic, The Monster at the End of This Book, there is a monster in this book.  Luke LOVED it.  It's the rare library book we kept the full three weeks we are allowed and we read it so many times.  Probably another I should sale stalk (I might have a book buying problem for myself and Luke...)
