MANY Seasonal Picture Book Series

There are whole lists of seasonal books that the boys and I read faithfully every year.  Books for every holiday and season, starting with winter and going through Christmas (I just realized I don't think I have any New Years books...that's a hole that needs filled now, obviously).  Our picture book reading has certainly increased in the last 5 years and so we're going on 4+ years in a row that we've read these books, the same time of year, year after year.  I find something so comforting and routine about the reliability of these picture books.  Such fond memories of hours upon hours spent on the couch with the boys, reading the same books.  Just seeing the covers to pull this list evokes such nostalgia of different times of the year.

In our reading and rereading, I started realizing that the same characters were popping up over and over again, through multiple holidays and seasons in a year.  Even thinking that, I didn't realize how many characters we read about multiple times a year, until I was putting this together.  And even after having dozens and dozens of tabs open, I still didn't realize it until typing them all up.  Here are a WHOLE LOT of seasonal board and picture books grouped my series, each in approximate calendar order of holidays/season.  Starts with board books and works up to picture book.

Curious George Curious about Spring, Curious about Summer, Curious about Fall, Curious about Winter by H.A. Rey
These are tabbed picture books celebrating each season with little poems on each page.  I've been reading these to Sam for many years!  George tends to be a hit with my boys.

Little Blue Truck's Valentine, Little Blue Truck Springtime, Time for School Little Blue Truck, Little Blue Truck's Halloween, Little Blue Truck's Christmas by Alice Schertle, illustrated by Jill McElmurry
We have loved Little Blue Truck since my sister gave my oldest son the first book (Little Blue Truck) for his 1st birthday, 9 years ago.  None of them have been as good as the first two (gold standard of board books, truly) but we still own all the above and pull them out and read often in the appropriate time of year!

Where Do Diggers Say I Love You?, Where Do Diggers Hunt for Easter Eggs?, Where Do Diggers Take Vacation?, Where Do Diggers Trick-or-Treat?, Where Do Diggers Celebrate Christmas?,  by Brianna Caplan Sayres, illustrated by Christian Slade
The Diggers are another one we've loved for many many years.  We started buying them for Luke and then transitioned to buying them for Sam and I'm still debating, with my youngest 5, if I should still buy the Vacation and Easter ones I just learned about when putting together this list!

Don't Push the Button! An Easter Surprise, A Halloween Treat, A Christmas Adventure, Don't Shake the Present by Bill Cotter
The "Larry" books have been a BIG hit with each of my boys around the 3 year old point and I still read them to Sam (5).  I don't know why there are two Christmas ones, that one is a little strange for me but we did get one of them from a Little Free Library!

L is for Love: A Heartfelt Alphabet, E is for Easter, A is for America, C is for Camping, S is for School: A Classroom Alphabet, B is for Boo: A Halloween Alphabet, T is for Thankful, S is for Santa: A Christmas Alphabet by Greg Paprocki
Greg Paprocki is another favorite here and I am sad that I don't have much justification to keep buying alphabet board books.  I think we own all of those and his pictures are just so detailed, colorful, and creative.  We've read nearly all of his.

Countdown to Easter, Countdown to Halloween, Countdown to Christmas by Greg Paprocki
More by Greg Paprocki but based around counting and not the alphabet.  We haven't read Easter yet, that's new this year, but the other two are great, even with Sam at nearly 5 when we last pulled out the Christmas one!

Duck & Goose Here Comes the Easter Bunny; Duck & Goose Go to the Beach; Duck & Goose Find a Pumpkin; Duck & Goose Honk! Quack! Boo!; Duck & Goose, It's Time for Christmas by Tad Hills
These are easy reader level about a duck and a goose who are friends and have adventures.  There are a few more that aren't seasonal as well.

Biscuit's Snow Day Race; Biscuit's Valentine's Day; Happy Easter, Biscuit!; Biscuit Loves Mother's Day; Biscuit Loves Father's Day; Biscuit's Fourth of July; Biscuit Visits the Pumpkin Patch; Happy Halloween, Biscuit!; Happy Thanksgiving Biscuit!; Biscuit's Christmas Eve; Biscuit's Christmas by Alyssa Satin Capucilli, illustrated by Pat Schories
Luke got a Biscuit book at school I think when he was in kindergarten and that sent us down a rabbit hole into every Biscuit book the library owned.  I read these with Sam and probably will keep that up as he learns to read soon!  There are so many of these, many not seasonal/holiday themed.  (I even referenced this series in my recipe for actual biscuits, one of which I just ate an hour ago.)

Click, Clack, Moo I Love You!; Click, Clack Quack to School!; Click, Clack Boo!: A Tricky Treat; Duck for President; Click, Clack, Ho! Ho! Ho! by Doreen Cronin
Featuring the antics of a crazy duck and his friends on a farm and their somewhat in-competent farmer, Farmer Brown.  I think Duck for President might be my favorite of all of these but, strangely, about the only one we don't own.  Also more non-seasonal ones.

Bunny Slopes, Bunny Overboard, Hungry Bunny (fall) by Claudia Rueda
These are fun because they are interactive picture books where you tilt the book so the bunny can ski or use the ribbon bookmark so the bunny can cross a ravine.  Sam really likes these.

Little Owl's Snow, Little Owl's Love by Divya Srinivasan
Just two of these but the little owl is so stinkin cute that they had to be included.  Illustrated owls tend to be cuter than actual owls...

The Berenstain Bears and the Winter Wonderland, Valentine Love Bug, Funny Valentine, Valentine Party, St. Patrick's Day, Easter Parade, Baby Easter Bunny, The Very First Easter, Real Easter Eggs, The Easter Story, Easter Sunday, Go Green, We Love Our Mom!, Mama's Day Surprise, We Love Our Dad, Papa's Day Surprise, Go on Vacation, Pirate Adventure, Go to Camp, Too Much Vacation, God Bless Our Country, Go to School, Trouble at School, Go Back to School, School Time Blessings, Harvest Festival, Go on a Ghost Walk, Trick or Treat, Big Halloween Party, Haunted House, the Prize Pumpkin, Thanksgiving All AroundGive ThanksMeet Santa Bear, Save Christmas, Trim the Tree, Christmas Tree, Joy of Giving: True Meaning of Christmas, Nutcracker, Old-Fashioned Christmas, Night Before Christmas, Christmas Angel, Go Christmas Caroling, and The Very First Christmas by Stan, Jan and/or Mike Berenstain
There is a Berenstain Bear book for EVERYTHING and I know I didn't even hit them all here.  Really, any holiday and there is probably more than one.  We own and enjoy SO MANY of these.  When we dont' have many library picture books to read, we'll pull out some of our Berenstain Bear collection which is great at filling up reading time.

Bear Wants More (spring), Bear Says Thanks, Bear Stays up for Christmas, Bear Can't Sleep (winter) by Karma Wilson, illustrated by Jane Chapman
The Bear Thanksgiving book was the first one we came across of these but now they all have been worked into our seasonal rotation.  These are ones my boys tend to move the top of the stack when we sit down to read!  There are also more of these.

Spring Stinks, Thanks for Nothing (Thanksgiving), Santa Bruce, by Ryan T. Higgins
Bruce is a grumpy bear who accidentally seemed to adopt some geese and maybe some squirrels?  We have Spring Stinks right now and Sam used the pictures in that book to inform me that a skunk couldn't have sprayed because we didn't see the yellow gas.  Even though by the smell, I knew it was a skunk.  See!  They do pick up something even if it's false.  Also, more of these.

Pick a Perfect Egg, Pick a Pumpkin, Pick a Pine Tree by Patricia Toht, illustrated by Jarvis
The two of these I've read (Pumpkin and Pine Tree) are fantastic and some of our favorites to pull out in the appropriate time of year.  Egg I didn't know existed until I was putting together this list but I promptly put it on hold at the library!

Turkey's Valentine Surprise, Turkey's Eggcellent Easter, Turkey Goes to School, Turkey Trick or Treat, Turkey Trouble (Thanksgiving), Turkey Claus by Wendi Silvano
This is another series that my boys LOVE and they always move to the top of the stack.  The first one we read was Turkey Trouble where a farm turkey DOES NOT want to end up on the table at Thanksgiving so he tries to disguise himself as different farm animals to stay safe.  Surprisingly, that concept is able to carried into other holidays.  These are a bit goofy and my boys love them.

The Night before Valentine's Day, The Night before St. Patrick's Day, The Night before Easter, The Night before Mother's Day, The Night before Father's Day, The Night before the Fourth of July, The Night before Halloween, The Night before Thanksgiving , The Night before New Year's by Natasha Wing, various illustrators
Another series there are SO MANY of but these are the holiday ones we've read (St. Patrick's Day just got returned!).  Rythmn of Night before Christmas but adapted to many different holidays.

When Spring Comes, Summer Song, In the Middle of Fall, Winter is Here, by Kevin Henkes, illustrated by Laura Dronzek
These we just found somewhat recently but I really like them.  An ode to the current season and all that is great about it.  Not too much text but they do a great job of evoking the feeling of each season.

Duck and Hippo: The Secret Valentine, Duck and Hippo Give Thanks by Jonathan London
Duck and Hippo are friends with other animal friends who always find a way to celebrate the holidays together.  There are more of these besides holidays.

Love from the Crayons, Happy Easter from the Crayons, The Crayons go Back to School, The Crayons Trick or Treat, The Crayons' Christmas, Green is for Christmas by Drew Daywalt
The first two Crayon books are among the epitome of a perfect picture book.  A+, no notes.  None of these are quite as good (we haven't read Easter, another I didn't know about until this list!) but still brings back many of the crayons from the first books.  They are still fun.

Snow, Rain, Sun, Storm by Sam Usher
These are lovely stories for each season about a young boy and the magical adventures he has with his Grandpa.  Fantastic imagination and lovely pictures.

Goodbye Winter, Hello Spring; Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn; Goodbye Autumn, Hello Winter by Kenard Pak
These are some of our favorite picture books to read at the change of a season, saying goodbye to one, welcoming another.  I haven't seen anything about a Spring to Summer transition but that is also the easiest season transition, I believe.  The end of the school year is ALWAYS times to celebrate.

Cranberry Valentine, Cranberry Easter, Cranberry Summer, Cranberry Autumn, Cranberry Halloween, Cranberry Thanksgiving, Cranberry Christmas by Wende Devlin
Another that my boys always pull to the top of the stack but they are a bit wordier.  Featuring the residents of Cranberryport, mainly A grandmother, her granddaughter, and their grumpy neighbor.  The town always has to come together to solve SOME problem.  My library got rid of the Valentine's one and we missed it this year!

WOW...that might be the most books I've ever linked in a post.  I hope you found something new (I did!) and I'd love to hear any more you have to add!
