Last year I wrote a Christmas-y version of this list and it might be my favorite one of these I've ever done (and I've done a lot of them). I was starting to pull items for this list...and nearly everything I wanted to include was sold out...so that doesn't really work well. Also, Target just didn't have as good of trees as in prior years! I think I got a couple new varieties last year and this year it was just a few bottle brush and that was it. BUT...there's still a few things to talk about so here we go!
I always enjoy hearing what works for other people and I like sharing things I like, it's part of the reason I have a blog. I've been doing these monthly posts for 10 years and they also provide a nice little snapshot in my life at a moment in time! See more here! Some affiliate links may be included!
1) White Christmas
I was first introduced to this movie by one of my college roommates on December 7th, 2003 and immediately loved it. Matt bought me the DVD (at my suggestion) the Christmas we were in engaged and then I've watched it every year since. My boys even like it and ask about it from time to time; we always watch it when we are decorating the tree together. It was made even more special when I found out it was my Grandpa's favorite movie so I think of him every time we watch it too. (This movie WILL be coming up again on this list.)
2) "Snow" Print from White Christmas
I knew next to our bathroom sink would be a perfect spot for this lyric but it took me a few years to get to searching Etsy for one. It arrived and I was right, that was a good place for it. I like this better than when I wrapped the same frame last year.
See? All in on this movie apparently. I got it in my head to buy a Christmas sweatshirt referencing the movie. Etsy has MANY. I purposely stayed away from any that said anything about Christmas thinking it would be better to wear all winter if it just referenced snow...but then realized the bright green I got it in is definitely VERY Christmasy. So...we'll see (I'll probably still wear it through the winter). I wasn't sure about the color but now I've worn it 3 days in a row, every day since I've gotten it...
4) Disco Ball Snowman
This came about because I wanted a disco ball snowman Target was selling but I could never find it in stock. So I searched Etsy for a disco ball snowman and came up with this print for a couple bucks. It's not hanging up right now but will be post-Christmas when I take down all the Christmas prints and switch to just winter.
This was on my list last month but it is too good not to include again. I like it even more now that I've been using it on packages. I used it for all our goddaughters and will encourage Matt & the boys to use it on my presents once they get to wrapping those...it's just fun and it actually lays really well. I'd buy more but not at this current price! I got it for about 1/3 that back in October or early November. And I'll reuse whichever of this I get back after gifts are open! (8/9 of our teacher gifts were wrapped using reused twine!)
6) Spirited
I wrote about this in February...which is not when most people are thinking about Christmas movies so it deserves another mention in December. We had a free Apple TV trial last winter and Matt & I watched this on Christmas evening, after the boys were in bed. I LOVED it so much that I watched it again a few days later on my own. Then downloaded the soundtrack and listened to that until it was past time to list to Christmas music in January. ("Christmas Morning Feeling" is a bop, for sure). We do not have Apple TV right now but I want to figure out another free trial so we can watch again over break. It was just a lot of fun (PG-13 I think? Some language. I wouldn't show it to Luke.)7) Pray by Sticker - Christmas
I bought one of these for each of the boys and they never do paint by stickers better than at Christmas when we read hundreds of Christmas picture books together. We have non-Christmas paint by sticker books but they never pull them out when we're reading, just at Christmas. They let me get more books in since their hands are occupied plus the pictures are really cool. They are a little tough on Sam (5½) (I help him with some of the tinier pieces) but perfect for Luke (10½).
8) A Very Backstreet Christmas
This is still played, near daily, shuffled in with all the other Christmas music, at our house this year. It might be their best CD. (Solid top 3, for sure.)
9) My Boots
These are last year boots from Target...that I own a backup of for when my pair wears out because I love them and don't want my life to be without. I was so happy to pull them out again when the weather got cold and they are just so comfy and warm. I wear them pretty much every time I step out of the house that I'm not going to Mass or work. (Although I did wear them to Mass this morning.) These are one of my random shoe purchases that end up becoming nearly crucial to my life.
What have YOU been liking lately, particularly in December??
