Mixed drink Monday: 3 new rum drinks

On our honeymoon cruise we could buy liquor duty free.  At that point in our lives, neither of us had done much liquor buying and had no idea what a decent price was but we wanted to take advantage of the situation.  So we bought this 6 pack rum sampler.  It sat in our cupboard.  Two years later on our second cruise we decided to buy another sampler and also a bottle of pineapple rum.  That bottle of rum I just finished last summer (6 years after buying it) and we still have some of the rum sampler in our cupboard.  We've been married almost 9 years.  Before this weekend we still had 9 of the 12 bottles.  We helped that situation this weekend by trying out 3 of the suggested drinks on the back.  These were little 50mL bottles so this wasn't a huge undertaking.   Two of the drinks were good, 1 was ehhhh.  Here they are in order from left to right:

Barcari Double-O

1 part orange rum
1 part orange juice
3 parts sprite or equivalent (we used Aldi brand)

Mix and serve over ice.

Thoughts:  We liked this one.  Despite it being a very small drink (pictured is one half of what we could make with the bottle) it was good.  The orange flavors were strong, the rum was good.  Winner.  Would make again if we ever have orange rum again.

Bacardi Razz & Sprite
1 part raspberry rum
4 parts Sprite or equilivant (again, Aldis.  We made both drinks with less than 1 can).

Mix and serve over ice.

Thoughts: Again, we liked this one.  The raspberry flavor was a nice compliment to the pop.  It was good.  Would make again if we ever have raspberry rum.

Bacardi Limon Kickstart
1 part lemon rum
4 parts Mountain Dew

Mix and serve over ice.

Thoughts: We didn't like this one.  I don't think Mountain Dew should be used as a mixer with drinks.  It just did not taste good.  I mean, we still drank it, but I didn't enjoy it like the other two.

We picked these three to make because we had the recommended mixers.  What we have left are 2 coconut rums (no problem using those), 2 green apple, 1 melon, and another lemon.  Maybe we will get adventurous and make the recommended drinks.  Or we will use them all for rum & cokes.  Watermelon rum & coke??  Does not sound good.  But I like the idea of using up what we have and drinking for pretty cheap.

In the summer I aim to make a new drink every week and share them all here, good or bad!  See them all in chronological order by following the "Mixed Drink Monday" tag here or check out my favorites by scrolling down to "Mixed Drink Monday" on my recipes page!
