Things I Like - January

My monthly round-up of 5 things I'm liking, with a few affiliate links sprinkled in.  Thanks for helping support the blog! =)  See more here!

1) Target Chandra Slippers
I've gone through (worn out) a couple pairs of slippers in the past decade and when my pair similar to these wore out last winter I figured I would just make do with a pair I already owned rather than get a replacement.  Well I quickly figured out that my old and messed up feet do much better when I have hard soles on my slippers than they do on just soft soles.  We are not a strict shoes off house but I do switch to my slippers pretty quick after being home so I wear these A LOT.  Matt got these for me for Christmas and I have worn them, on average, at least 12 hours a day since (I am home a lot).  The lining and comfy, the soles give me the support my feet need, and I like the pink.  They do seem to show dirt quicker than the tan-ish ones I had before but I am willing to live with that.  I will be wearing these almost constantly around the house until May.

2) Blue-Light Filter Glasses
I try to be off devices most of the evenings and yet, there are 2 nights a week that I am consistently working on things on my computer.  On Monday evenings, once the boys are in bed, I update our photobooks and on Wednesdays I do bills.  As well as various other evenings that seem to be the only available time for me to update our adoption profile book or work on our taxes or research vacation things.  I have been struggling with sleep on and off and I knew the blue light from my computer didn't help so I got these glasses (they are actually a replacement for a pair I got a year ago that mysteriously (aka, one of the boys) broke).  I only wear them when I am using my computer in the evening since we do pretty well at staying off our phones then.  I don't know if it's a placebo effect or if they really help but they make me feel like I am doing something proactive at least!

3) Office Ladies podcast
I was a big fan of The Office back when it was on and have done at least two full rewatches since it went off the air almost 7 years ago.  I've also been following Jenna Fischer (Pam) on social media for awhile (we have the same hometown!) and knew I would be listening to her podcast with Angela Kinsey (Angela).  They are doing a full The Office rewatch, starting with the Pilot where they break down the episode and share behind the scenes info from the filming.  It really makes me want to rewatch the whole thing with them but now they are a bit into season 2 and I haven't started yet.  They get off topic a lot but it's fun girlfriend chat to listen to.  I'd highly recommend if you are a fan of The Office.

4) Thermoflask Water Bottle
I'm a huge fan of reusable, insultated water bottles.  I almost always have mine with me and have for nearly 10 years.  However, with all that use comes a lot of wear.  My last water bottle had a broken seal in the lid which meant it leaked a lot which kinda defeated the purpose.  I looked all over to find just a replace seal but couldn't and so Matt got me this new one for Christmas.  It's my 3rd similar water bottle since I got my first in August 2010 (I still have my previous two and pull them out occasionally when I need to take more than 24 ounces of water with me!).  My water consumption has greatly increased since I've been carrying a dedicated water bottle with me every where for nearly 10 years.  I really couldn't live without one.  We debated multiple kinds before settling on this one which has two lids.  One for sipping that I've been solely using now (I need to be able to drink and keep my eyes on the road when driving!) and one for gulping that I think I'll use more on hot summer days and post-runs.  And it's my first blue one!

5) Microfiber Hair Turban
My hair and I have been on a journey over the past few months; I've switched up my products and washing routine and feel like maybe I'm making progress in finally figuring out how to deal with my wavy hair.  I had stopped using a regular towel on my hair last fall, switching to one of Matt's old t-shirts but then the boys (picked out by Matt, I had nothing to do with this gift!) gave me a microfiber hair turban for Christmas and it's fantastic.  I can't find the exact one they bought because they got it at Five Below and I long recycled the box but it seems similar to the one I linked.  The microfiber is better on curly/wavy hair but the best part is how easily it contains my hair when I am getting around in the morning.  Once dressed, I wrap my hair in this which has a handy button on the back to keep the whole thing in place.  It makes me wish I could wear a similar turban all day just for the fact that it keeps my wet hair off my back and doesn't fall down!  Even if you don't have curly hair, the turban is super helpful so I can move around my morning quickly without a towel falling off my head.
