Things I Like - August 2024

I always enjoy hearing what works for other people and I like sharing things I like, it's part of the reason I have a blog.  I've been doing these monthly posts for 10 years and they also provide a nice little snapshot in my life at a moment in time! See more here!  Some affiliate links may be included!

1) Shell Bags
I bought these many months ago, maybe November?  Knowing we had a beach vacation in our 2024 (it was already booked) and that I would be recruited to carry MANY shells that the boys picked up.  So I bought these and got them out right before we left.  Told the boys that all the shells they collected from the beach had to fit in their respective bag.  One son filled his in the first 30 minutes of our first trip to the beach and then STILL recruited me to hold more shells for him (we got him to narrow it down to what fit in the bag again before we left).  These were perfect for them to carry to/from the beach, the water could drain out, the sand fall out, and resilient enough to leave on our deck most of the week.  Their shells are STILL in these, a month later, as we figure out what to do with all the shells and gems they've accumulated over many camping trips but narrowing down what they brought home this time was the first start.  Much fewer shells ended up in my beach bag!  (Note: one of these filled with shells can still get pretty heavy!)

2) Aldi Dark Chocolate Covered Freeze Dried Strawberries
These were an impulse purchase shortly before some road trip this summer (likely our beach trip) and then we all demolished the bag in about 3 minutes one they were opened.  One of the boys went through a many year freeze dried strawberry phase but doesn't really ask for them any more.  We all liked these chocolate covered ones, just the right amount of chocolate, good texture, etc.  Found in the aisle with the mixed nuts at our Aldi.

3) Himalayan Salted Dark Chocolate Almonds
We had been buying dark chocolate almonds for awhile and they even made this list a year ago (everything on that list is still fantastic and was very much a part of my summer).  But then Target was out of the ones we normally buy so I added these to the online cart and I think I like them even better.  The touch of salt is very nice and appreciated.  Maybe it's just nice to mix things up but these are good and you can pretend they are reasonably healthy.  Also good for road trips.

4) Ritz Cracker Cheese Sandwiches
My younger son is VERY particular about his cracker sandwiches.  They absolutely cannot be the peanut ones.  He will not eat the peanut butter ones.  BUT...he is VERY interested in cheese ones (a big fan of cheese, in general).  He recently declared that the ones I've been buying from Aldi for years (that he used to demolish a half a box of in a sitting and that's only because I stopped him from eating the whole box), those taste like "sunflower seeds"...  I don't know why.  I picked these up from the Aldi aisle of shame this summer but then also order from Target occasionally.  He LOVES them and will eat as many as I let him (which isn't many...individually wrapped snacks aren't for home!).  But they were good for zoo trips over the summer and/or his daily allocated school snack.

5) JVC Headphones
This list has slowly been pivoting from beach to school.  These are the headphones that have held up the longest for my boys and I feel like we've tried MANY at this point.  They've each kept a pair working for well over a year at home (we have stickers on them to tell theirs apart) and when our oldest needed a new pair for school this year, this is what we bought since it's held up through quite literally hours of listening at home and in the car (the boys are BIG fans of playaways from the library - audiobooks on these little devices that just require headphones and a single AAA battery).  Headphones have been challenging for us but these, fingers crossed, have worked so far.  Also, $20.

What have YOU been liking lately?
