At the end of every quarter I take a break from things I like to sharing things that the boys have been liking. This is usually books but sometimes we mix in other things too! It very much feels like fall here which puts me in the mood for fall AND Christmas (because Christmas prep needs to start early).

1) Forged in FireI have never watched more than 5 seconds of this show but Matt & the boys LOVE it. It might be the main reason we have Netflix right now (although Matt & I are currently working on Stranger Things so I guess we'd have it for that too). It's a competitions show about making knives and they are all, strangely, enthralled with it. Even 4 year old Sam can quote the line they tell someone when they've been voted (kicked?) off. Also, they all want a forge now.2) Paw Patrol - Sam
This is Sam's current favorite show and is the main reason I still haven't canceled the Paramount+ subscription that kept going after the free trial we got to watch Sonic (Luke's movie pick one Friday). This is Sam's reward after we do a stroller run and I take a much needed shower, he knows he gets Paw Patrol. That reward feels especially earned on some of these mornings when it's 42° when we start running. When I was sick I watched a few episodes with him and I decided that, although the show makes NO SENSE (Does Ryder have parents?? What town is entrusting all their emergency services to a kid and some dogs??? Also, the dogs talk.), what appeals about it to me is that AS SOON AS Ryder pages the dogs...they say "Ryder needs us!" and come running. When I pointed this out to the boys (who super rarely come the first time they are called unless it's for popsicles or popcorn), Sam said it's because the dogs have pup tags or something, it obviously wouldn't work with kids.3) Unsolved Case File Books - Luke
I am always looking for some good graphic novel series for Luke to read and he got right into these when I picked them up from the library. I've only gotten him the first two (because I'm considering saving the third to give him for Christmas) and he flew right through them and hasn't let me return them yet. Ok, I don't know what they are about but based on the title...I'm going with unsolved mysteries. He's really liked them. 4) Farkle
My Mom has played this with Luke over the past year as sneaky math practice and then Luke taught it to the rest of us. Then Matt made a set of wooden die and it became our go-to family game this summer. We took it on nearly every camping trip/vacation we took! Sam can't keep his own score but can strategize and it's can be quick and easy to all play together. It's a rare game that holds everyone's attention, from 4-39!5) Saints Memory - Sam
Yes, we are still going on the Saints Memory from Shining Light. The Wonderful Women set 1 was recently back in stock and I have been trying to get that last set for 6 months. That reignited Sam's interest in playing and now we've been playing at least a few games a day. I am still getting demolished by him every time. It's amazing the Saints they have learned through all the games we've played over the last 9 months! I am still trying to convince Sam to do a mega massive memory game with all 104 cards we own, 52 sets of Saints. He thinks it'll be overwhelming (he's probably right but we need to try!).6) Dude Perfect Book - Luke
We bought a signed copy of this for Luke's adoption day in 2021 and he still is pulling it out regularly to flip through it. We've been on the Dude Perfect train for awhile, 2½ years now or so, and Luke is fascinated by all the facts and stats and info in the book. It's also very reliable entertainment for the whole family AND a good homework motivator when there is a new episode.
Those are some things that they've been liking lately! How about YOU?
