There are a lot of things I don't excel at in this parenting job. I don't feed my kids enough vegetables. I don't apply sunscreen before they go outside. I question my own parenting choices almost daily. But the one thing I feel pretty good about is reading to them. I've read hundreds and hundreds of books to our 6 year old and I think it really did help him speak well early and help his attention span. There are so many things I've had the chance to explain to him after reading about it in books (9/11, slavery, segregation, etc.). It's my favorite things to do with my kids (more so our oldest, the 15 month old still doesn't sit still for very long).
This is our first full week of summer break, and our first real summer break since our son just finished kindergarten. I have big plans to read to him every day (which won't happen) but we will read many days. If you have similar goals, here's 100 picture books to get you started. You can find another 100 in this list I posted two years ago!
Happy reading!
