Things I Like - February

My monthly round-up of 5 things I'm liking, with a few affiliate links sprinkled in.  Thanks for helping support the blog! =)  See more here!

1) Bethesda Fountain puzzle
I enjoy doing puzzles but only do them in the winter and only when I don't have super small children.  Which meant last winter I didn't do any puzzles because Sam was just at the right age to be able to climb a chair and destroy my puzzle.  This year he is old enough to know better and, thankfully, has left my puzzles alone.  I have a few I've done many times but I also this one for Valentine's Day from Matt (did I heavily suggest that?  Yes, yes I did.) and it has been given me many peaceful and enjoyable hours of working on it while listening to podcasts, watching a movie, or taking a break from e-learning.  It's just hard enough that it took me about a week to do yet but easy enough that I can find a few pieces that fit without too much difficulty or time.  Perhaps not surprisingly, all the puzzles I've done this winter have been NYC ones with one more 2000 piece Times Square puzzle that I think I am going to attempt next.  Have I also been eying some more variations of this puzzle?  Yes.  There is just something so satisfying about puzzles in the winter.  (I wrote a whole post about puzzles 4 years ago!)

2) Fr. Mike Schmitz Presents
Podcasts have been such a consistent item on here for me!  I go through spurts where I am overwhelmed by all the unlistened ones I have (like last week when Luke was home on 3 days of e-learning following a long 4 day weekend for President's Day...I didn't get much listening time in that week) to times where I am out of anything new (like this past Monday night).  This was an easy one to work into my rotation since the episodes are generally under 10 minutes.  It's a Catholic priest offering his thoughts of different faith things, sometimes looking at secular items through a faith based lens.  It's given me things to think about and been educational.  I gather that it's a video series too but I've only done them as podcasts.  I generally have more listening time available than video time!  Great find just in time for lent!

 3) Beauty Blenders
We're taking a hard pivot from a faith podcast to beauty blenders.  We all contain multitudes.  I had heard for years how much people like using their beauty blenders but I resisted because I just didn't see the point.  Then my sister recommended these and I put them on my Elfster list and got them for Christmas.  You all, now I see why people like them so much!  I wear foundation nearly every single day, really helps hide all my psoriasis flares and even things out.  I use these strictly for that.  And I'm not even actually using these but one a different sister got me from Target but once that one wears out I will start on these.  They keep my fingers cleaner, enabling me to skip a mid-make-up hand wash when I am usually running short on time.  And help foundation go on smoother.  I am a fan.

4) Trader Joe's Crispy Cookies with Belgian Chocolate
On a recent date morning Matt and I went to our new Trader Joe's for the first time.  They opened last fall but every time I drove past (which was a whole 3-4 times) there was always a line out the door due to COVID occupancy restrictions.  Matt & I were looking for an indoor date activity and Trader Joe's fit the bill (hopefully spring brings weather suitable to more outside activities).  We've visited Trader Joe's a few times together before (when he'd visit me at college, on a few vacations) and we went in with a set max amount to spend (watching that grocery budget this year!) and nothing on a list.  These are one of the things we walked out with and I LOVE them.  I love a good buttery cookie and the dark chocolate is fantastic.  So far I've hidden them from my kids and Matt can't partake due to his lenten commitments which means I'll get the whole box.  That works out very well for me!  I might need a return trip to Trader Joe's just for these.

5) Thy Will by Hillary Scott & the Scott Family
Last month I went to a prayer evening thing for women with my Mom.  Two women performed this there and I was instantly committing at least enough of it to memory so I'd be able to find it and download it (free, thanks to my slow shipping Amazon credits) later.  In the years we were waiting on kids which turned into an adoption wait for Luke, every time I prayed the Our Father I'd really focus on these words "Thy will be done" because it was really hard to accept that kids weren't coming like we'd expect.  We're still in the middle of an adoption wait but also in everything, it's very helpful for me to focus on "Thy will" instead of my will.  I added this to our morning praise playlist and so now we hear it every school morning!

Those are some things I've been liking, how about you?
