Things I Like - April 2022

I always enjoy hearing what works for other people and I like sharing things I like, it's part of the reason I have a blog.  I've been doing these monthly posts for 9 years and they also provide a nice little snapshot in my life at a moment in time! See more here!  Some affiliate links may be included!

1) Chuckle & Roar card holders
Sam has really gotten into card games this year and he's fairly competent at Go Fish!, Odie Maid (a Garfield version I've had since I was a kid), and Uno.  He had a card holder (handed down from Luke) that broke a few months ago and I finally caved and bought him new ones.  They make it much easier for him to hang onto his cards and I will use one too because then you can stand your cards up on the table in front of you and not have to hold them!  It's nice to make our game playing a little easier!

2) Spring Street Puzzle
In full honestly, I am not done with this puzzle yet.  Matt set-up a table in my office for my puzzles on Christmas Day.  I thought that would come down sometime in April because I'd have less time for puzzles.  I am doing them slower than over the winter but especially appreciate them during weekend family screentime (movie night with the boys or when Matt & I watch something) because they keep me from falling asleep.  So I'm still going.  Anyways, this was my (as requested) Easter present and it's 1000 pieces so starting was a bit slow (I HATE the process of flipping all the pieces over) but now it's moving at a comfortable pace.  Not too easy but not frustratingly difficult.  Just right.  And so perfect for spring!

3) What's Inside: Songs from Waitress by Sara Bareilles
In November 2019 I, on behalf of Matt, bought tickets to see a live production of the musical Waitress, based on the movie by the same name that is one of my favorites.  That was one of my gifts that Christmas and was supposed to happen in April 2020.  It was postponed twice but I FINALLY, almost 30 months (2½ years) after buying my ticket, finally got to see it over spring break.  And it was a delight.  It was at the Embassy Theater downtown, where I was a volunteer youth usher from 7th-12th grades and have very fond memories of the place.  Some of the story was line for line from the movie, there were some minor changes (a few politically motivated ones...) and then a lot of songs.  I immediately got this CD and have been listening to it frequently.  Sara Bareilles wrote all the songs, I believe, for the musical and she performs many of them on here.  I think I may like it more than the actual soundtrack?  Not sure but the musical was a delight and I've been enjoying having this too!

4) Salt Lamp night light
I did some rearranging of some kitchen things after reading another minimalism book (this one) and it meant moving some cutting boards I had been using to hide an outlet that I didn't want to see.  But then THAT gave me an excuse to buy a salt lamp, which Sherry from Young House Love has been talking about for years.  Yes, a minimalism book convinced me to buy more things.  I see the irony.  BUT...there are fewer things on my counter and that is very exciting!

5) Knife drawer block
The big thing that moved in that kitchen rearranging is that I bought this drawer knife block to get our original knife block off the counter.  Which meant some drawer rearranging (which is honestly enjoyable) and then some containers that sit on the counter could move to where the knife block was.  Anyways.  This works great for our all the knives that were in our knife block, the only things that didn't fit were the sharpener (which is in the drawer next to it) and the scissors (in a different drawer).  Doing all this switching around and cleaning made for an energizing morning!

What have YOU been liking lately?

(Sam came down as I was finishing this and he delightedly exclaimed "We have that!  And we have that!  We have so many things!")
