2nd quarter 23 in 2023 Update

It's time for a very overdue update on how my 23 in 2023 list is going.  I usually do these shortly after the quarter ends but that's right about when life went a bit haywire and nothing in my life was even remotely close to caught up until my kids both (SOB) started school a few weeks ago.   I thought it might be a little hard to remember exactly what got done by the end of June but then I realized that very little productive happened in July so almost anything that got done...happened before July 1st!  Let's see if I made 50%!

Original 23 in 2023 list
1st quarter update

Inside Home Things
1) Reorganize bottom of basement stairs (100%)
This is done!  I was actually just marveling at it earlier today.  Might be getting a full post but it is SUCH an improvement over what was done there the first 17 years we lived here.

2) Paint kitchen cabinets (0%)
At June 30th we had made no progress but is something we are working on now!  Maybe by the end of September it'll be done?

3) Replace kitchen hardware (0%)
This is part of #2, should be done all together.  We are disagreeing on if we should do inside mounts for the cabinet hinges (I say yes, Matt says it's not worth the cost.)

4) Simplify fridge & back door (100%)
This project took a fraction of the time as #2 will. And was done in 1st quarter.

5) Replace bathroom light (0%)
Matt is probably just going to rewire the one we have, should be a quick project, just need to remind him to do it.

6) Make flamingo pillow covers (100%)
Did this!  Made 3 for our front room!  They make me happy AND was all fabric from my stash, bought nothing!

7) Do a thorough clean-out of a significant area once a month (50%)
Feel pretty good saying I had done this every month January - June.  Still more I can find to get rid of sure, but I have a few months to go!

Outside Home Things
8)
Replace string light timer (100%)
Did this in the spring when we hung the lights!  Nice to have them back this summer.

9) Make another raised garden bed (100%)
Did this on the first two days of Luke's summer break and now there are pumpkins growing ALL OVER it.  Literally all over the sides.  We underestimated how much space pumpkins would take.  But they have been fun to watch.

10) Plant a vegetable that we will eat (100%)
Planted green beans which we have eaten!  And Sam planted carrots which he is very excited about harvesting.

11) Plant dahlias (100%)
Well I planted them.  None grew but I did my best!

12) Host 6 cookouts (33%)
Could be doing better on this.  Hopeful for fall!

Food
13) Bake with boys once a month (50%)
By June I had done this with the boys (mostly Sam) once a month!  Often just cookies or something but at least Sam will happily join me!

14) Eat local once a month (50%)
At least once a month, often on our dates!  Sometimes with the boys too.

15) Farmers market 4 times (0%)
I don't know why this one is so hard to work into our schedule.  Maybe because Saturdays at home are precious and we're always trying to get something done???  I do intend to go soon with the boys!

Fun
16) Go on 10 dates (60%)
Had done one a month through June!  These have been a huge game changer in our marriage over the last few years.

17) Finish 6 photobooks (San Antonio, 2023, Sam, Luke, Chicago, Cocoa Beach) (33%)
At the end of June I had ordered 2 of these (San Antonio and 2023) although I did get 2 more ordered in early July!  One of the many projects I am working on catching up with school having started.

18) Read Rose Code by Kate Quinn (0%)
Have not started but I am climbing out of a month long reading slump so it should be on the schedule for the fall.

Useful
19) Make packing lists (100%)
I'm calling this one done although they will take some continual tweaking.  I made 4, one for rustic camping cabins, one for the deluxe camping cabins, one for VRBOs, and one for hotels.  They have already proven helpful, even as I'm fine tuning them!

20) Systemize keeping quotes from the boys (50%)
I haven't made any progress on this in 2nd quarter, one of many things to catch up on now with school.

21) Art books (40%)
There was a moment where I was COMPLETELY caught up on photoing art.  That moment was awhile ago.  I do have a place to put everything that needs photographed!  And once I have photobooks caught up I'll get back to these.

22) Recycle sneakers (100%)
When I put this on my list I intended to just send in a bag of shoes I had collected from our family and from my sister.  Then, related to #23, I did a sneaker collection at school in May and had a total of 104 pairs of sneakers to recycle.  And then sent those in!

23) Project at Luke's School (25%)
This is something I've mentioned here a few times and will probably get some full posts once I really get it going but late last school year I started a sustainability committee at the school.  So far we've just done a crayon collection (60lbs!) and sneaker collection (the aforementioned 104 pairs) which is a start.  And I have 4 whole people on the committee...including me.  And Matt (who volunteered before I roped him into it).  (Am I related by blood or marriage to
the other 2? Yes. Maybe.)  There is so much more I'd like to do but turns out I made zero time for this over the summer.  Now I have time so back to it!  I'd really like to take on the lunchroom...the waste is ridiculous and I keep thinking about that repeated over and over at all the schools in town.

56.1%!  That's pretty good progress for 50% through the year!  Optimistic I can keep up good progress, especially with my weekdays more open for projects!
