Q: Do you get a say in the baby you get?

Q: Do you get a say in the baby you get?

We've been asked some form of this question multiple times.  On one of our many forms there were questions about preferred age, gender, and race.  We checked the 0-2 box for age, no preference on gender and, I think, said we'd prefer a caucasian baby.  We'd really prefer an infant but there wasn't a box for that.

The race question was the big one.  Going through this adoption stuff is making us address race in ways we normally don't.  Part of the reason is it would just be easiest to adopt a baby that looks like us.  Most of this process is very difficult and it'd be nice to make it easier where we can.

Our other concern is having to adapt to a new culture and not doing that well enough.  This is really weird to even blog about.  One of our classes was about these kinds of things, learning a child's culture and merging it with our own. And to answer another question, we can say no if I we want.  We are not forced to take any particular child.

We'll gladly take any baby that we are picked for but we did get to state our preferences.  One of our reservations in starting this process was that we'd have to make these decisions.  Say we want this kind of baby, not this kind, etc.  It's a very strange thing to do.
