Things I Like - August

My monthly round-up of 5 things I'm liking, with a few affiliate links sprinkled in.  Thanks for helping support the blog! =)  See more here!

1) La La Land
I know, I'm super behind the ball on this one but I FINALLY saw La La Land and I loved it.  As I expected to seeing as I love pretty much all musicals (The Sound of Music is my all-time favorite movie.  And Moulin Rouge is probably in my top 10.)This one felt like a classic movie from the 60s-70s but takes place now in LA with an aspiring actress and aspiring jazz musician as they pursue their dreams, professional and personal.  With lots of singing and dancing.  It was delightful and so fun.  If you like musicals, I'd definitely recommend.

2) La La Land and Moana soundtracks

And in that vein...the La La Land soundtrack has been in heavy repeat around lately.  And, thanks to Luke and my niece I babysit one day a week, the Moana soundtrack (or parts of it, it has 40 tracks!).  We've listened to the "Thank you song!" (You're Welcome) over 50 times in the last 2 weeks, it's definitely the favorite of the two kids so it gets a lot of plays when we are babysitting.  And other days because Luke requests it plenty on his own.   Anyways, both are fun and I even find myself listening to Moana occasionally when Luke's not around.  And sometimes he gets to listen to the "songs from Mommy's movie" because...I'm the Mom and I control the music.

3) The Perfect Scoop

I know I mentioned this in my last Quick Lit but I reference it SO MUCH that it's worth mentioning again.  If you read regularly you know I make a lot of ice cream.  A lot.  And this is a fantastic resource.  I bought it as soon as I was done "reading" it and have so many pages marked to make.  I usually stop with the ice cream about this time of year, as my project is winding down, but I still have so many of these I want to make that we're going to be eating homemade ice cream for many more months (I know, such a sacrifice).  If you make ice cream, this is definitely worth a look.

4) The BRIGHT Newsletter

I admitted two years ago that I barely follow the news but a lot of things have happened in the last year-ish in America, we have a very....interesting political landscape right now.  I found this daily newsletter almost a year ago and now is where I get most of my news.  Which certainly beats my previous source of the Facebook trending topics.  I'd say it's a center-leaning right view but often posts multiple views of current news.  Some pop culture/general interest stuff and a decent dose of actual news.  It takes just a few minutes to read each day but makes me feel much more up to date on current events!  You can sign up here.

5) Chuck Taylor Shoreline sneakers

I didn't need new casual sneakers but I've liked the look of these for awhile and Matt needed birthday ideas sooo...I got them as a present.  Maybe I've gotten too used to my cheap (inexpensive) Target flats (of which I own multiple) but I was surprised at how cushioned the soles of these are!  I think they'll take a little bit to break in (I ended up with 3 bandaids after a few hours, and that was with wearing thin socks) but otherwise I'm pretty happy with them.  I've heard they are easy to keep clean (we'll see if that's true) so the white doesn't worry me too much.  I think these will be getting a decent amount of wear come fall!
