August actually felt like a really long month. We got back from our Alabama trip right at the end of July so August was a bit of vacation recovery which quickly turned into back to school prep, adoption day celebrating, the first day of school, and lots of surprise rain (seriously, so many rain showers popped up around the drop-off and pick-up times, times when there was 0% forecasted chance of rain!). That back to school transition right in the middle really helped make things feel longer since the whole organization of our day shifted to accommodate school runs. Also, the hours spent going through 3rd grade homework that felt like an eternity made my whole life feel longer.
We had our longest stretch of having the AC on all summer (once school starts I am over the heat) and saw my first fall foliage (too soon!). (Yes, I want the heat to stop and fall to hold off...I don't know what season I expect it to be.) We ate at EIGHT local restaurants (including ice cream/sno-cone places in that count) which is just 7 more than my goal. It was a good month and end to our summer, even if I still have shells all over the house.
Looking back:
1 year ago: Book Love: Florence Adler Swims Forever
2 years ago: Under the Kitchen Sink: A Before & After
3 years ago: Thoughts of a First Time Kindergarten Mom (I am already DREADING sending Sam to school, it was so hard sending Luke.)
4 years ago: Front Room: In Progress
5 years ago: It's the Small Things
6 years ago: A-Mazing Chocolate Frosting
7 years ago: The Bathroom is Done!! (Basically)
8 years ago: I Made Pillows! (We still have and use this, they've been restuffed since.)
10 years ago: California!
1) Sunflowers downtown on a bike ride early in the month! Sam was delighted that there were ones his height since ours here are 10+ feet.
2) I take a picture every spring in this exact spot of the tulips and now there are zinnias and too many leaves on the trees to see the skyline!
3) Corn on the cob so fresh I watched my sister pick it. It was DELICIOUS.
4) Sunflowers in our backyard. It was unexpected how much joy those ~$5 of seeds brought.
5) There are a lot of tomatoes in there. A lot. I've done two batches of sauce to freeze in the IP and I have MANY more ahead of me. Which is good because we go through a lot of tomato sauce.
6) I thought this pink plant was looking pretty coral-y.
7) On a downtown bike ride to celebrate Sam's adoption day and Luke's almost last day of summer. We had this park ALL TO OURSELVES which is crazy because it's packed every other time we've been or ridden by. The fact that it was approximately 95° and a thunderstorm had just gone through about a mile north probably helped.
8) A praying mantis at the playground that was exciting for all. It even matched the playground!
9) Getting in some final pool time in the backyard.
10) On round two of peaches, Georgia ones in July, Michigan ones in August. I have NO regrets about the number of peaches I consumed this summer (it was...a lot.).
11) Back out on our working pontoon! Felt good to be on the water!
12) CRAZY blood moon at the lake when we were on the boat. I yelled "LOOK AT THAT MOON!" and then we had to swing the boat around because nobody listened to me and looked fast enough.
13) Frozen cokes on a day when Matt was off and we both had ran.
14) Sam picked me flowers! He's very proud every time he does this.
15) One of the many days rain got in our walking to/from school plans (at least this time we got our walk in, rain just started when we were 50 feet from home). I've never regretted owning rain boots as an adult.
16) Downtown with a cotton candy sky on a recent date with Matt. We biked, hit up a rooftop bar, picked up supper from a local restaurant to eat in the park, got (locally brewed) drinks in the park and heard some live music, and then got ice cream and walked around to see some of the outdoor art and lights. You all, it was just a delight.
Books finished: 14
Miles ran: 86.10, one of my best running months in a long time even if I have spent almost every school morning I am not at work or attending mass, running!
Currently watching: We finished Making It! (a delight of a tv show), are helplessly behind on Ninja Warrior (I just don't care about all of these teens), caught up on Brooklyn Nine-Nine (also a delightful tv show), and watching Community occasionally. I've starting trying to catch up The Office episodes with The Office Ladies podcast but I'm still ~5 episodes behind them.
Most read post this month: Stripping: Laundry Style, then Quick Lit - August and Mixed Drink Monday: The Fizzy Flamingo (I do not understand this one, at all.).
Luke's current favorite song:
Sam's current favorite song: He's holding strong on Victory in Jesus as sung by Carrie Underwood and Fun, Fun, Fun by the Beach Boys.
September is FALL and a full month of school and maybe few days with the AC and probably a lot of running!
