Things I Like - January 2023

I always enjoy hearing what works for other people and I like sharing things I like, it's part of the reason I have a blog.  I've been doing these monthly posts for 10 years and they also provide a nice little snapshot in my life at a moment in time! See more here!  Some affiliate links may be included!

1) A New Day Quilted Bag
If you are curious, yes, I was 100% drawn to this bag for the color.  I cannot help myself with this shade of teal.  (Although I did have a mug in this color in my cart at Aldi a few weeks ago and did put it back without purchasing so I am not a complete minimalist failure).  It's very cute and feels slightly dressier than my other crossbody bag.  It's also bigger than that one (meaning it easily holds my wallet, keys, and phone) which is helpful.  It's been my bag of choice since Christmas (when Matt helpfully wrapped it up for me after I purchased it in November) and even works for church (just doesn't hold Sam's church books).    (I did also tear apart a broken purse for the zippers at the end of 2022 so this is somewhat justified.)

2) Universal Thread Teal Wallet
This came into my life when someone asked me on Elfster for more ideas and I searched "teal" on Target's website (and yet...I claim to be a minimalist).  My godson (/his mother, my sister) gave me this for Christmas.  Now I can use my teal wallet inside my teal purse!  And in my sweatshirt.  You all, by the end of the year all my personal possessions may be in this color family.  This is a wristlet wallet so will be handy on times when I don't need a purse but more than my phone.  Probably some family bike rides!  It's also fabric so maybe the corners won't wear off like they have in some of my other wallets?  We'll see!

3) Weighted Blanket
Did this also come into my lift because of the shade of blue it is?  Maybe.  BUT...I had been considering a weighted blanket for awhile AND also a blue throw blanket for the foot of our bed (we've been using a grey one for many years).  I realized I could combine those things and use a weighted blanket at the bottom of the bed and when I searched Wayfair...one in a good shade of blue came up!  It's slightly more navy than my ideal but still works.  Mine is 40" x 60" and 10 pounds.  Which feels like a lot when it's on you!  I still have had the occasional night of bad sleep, even with this (but I have insomnia problems on and off anyways, also a very low caffeine tolerance...I need a good 10 hours between caffeine and going to sleep) but it does help me feel settled and warm at night.  I'm a fan.

4) Ridley's 50 Awe Inspiring Travel Destinations puzzle
This was also a Christmas present (we are 4/4 on Christmas gifts on this list...even though I also picked them all out) and it was a really fun puzzle to do.  1000 pieces but fairly easy to pull out all the different destinations.  Satisfying to do without being too fast.  And I think of the 50 destinations I've been to 4? (Niagara Falls, Yellowstone, London, Paris.  Also have been to NYC but not at Christmas like the puzzle shows.)  Lots of travel inspiration!  It even included Madagascar to see the lemurs and I 100% have a kid on board with that trip.

5) Ceaco Room with a View Puzzle
This one was NOT a Christmas gift but a random Kohls purchase when I was doing a return there in mid-December and got Kohls cash back as part of that.  I knew I wasn't going to want to mess with going back to Kohls in the ~2 weeks before it expired and also knew I didn't need any more blue sweaters (2 is probably good?) so I was happy to find this puzzle for what ended up being about $3 (Sam also used part of my Kohls cash to buy a Paw Patrol car).  1000 pieces again and not quite as easy as the one above but easy enough with all those colors. Actually doing the words was the hardest part!  Love the colors (my specific blue strikes again!) and the picture.  We are NOT tent campers but I still like the idea of being one!
