Things the Boys Like - June

At the end of each quarter I take a pause from posting about the things I have been liking lately and post about what my boys have been into.  Sometimes these are repeats from month to month because kids can latch onto things (which can be good, I don't need to relearn all new stuff for them constantly). So here are some things the boys have been liking lately!

As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases, links for which are included within this post, at no additional cost to you.  Thanks for helping support this blog!   Of course, utilize the library or shop used or from an independent bookstore, if you prefer!

1) Scooby Doo - Mystery Incorporated (Netflix)
Last year was a Scooby Doo DVDs from the library and this summer they are into the Netflix version (although we also have a stack of DVDs from the library too).  We've been experimenting with quiet reading time and screen time and I found there are less fights if they are watching something (and not a whole movie) than if they are playing a video game.  And Scooby Doo keeps them both happy!  (They are watching that as I type this!)

2) Monopoly Deal
Perpetually a favorite...for the last 2 months.  Our cards look like they have years of abuse...will they last a year?!?!?!?  Again, it says 8+ but our 5 year old can definitely hold his own.  He can't read many words but he's memorized all the cards and can match colors for Monopolies.  It's fun and competitive!

3) 50 Pack Crayola colored pencils
Colored pencils have been their coloring utinsil of choice for awhile and even I was getting tired of the same 12 colors in the standard box. We've had the skin ones for awhile too (especially nice for all the saints we color!) but still not enough shades of the main 6 colors...so I bought these.  And they've been a win.

4) Harry Potter Uno
My sister passed on a double of this to us and it's the boys' backup game of choice if they have gotten into too many fights over Monopoly Deal lately (there was a week they weren't allowed to play without an adult).  This could also be quicker and they used to play before school some mornings!

5) Berenstain Bears Summer books
Sam is often awake shortly after 8 while Luke is usually asleep until 9.  I am usually reading on the porch when Sam wakes up and sometimes I can talk him into some quiet reading with me for a bit.  These are often the books he pulls.  I've also liked Berenstain Bear books for car trips since they are a bit longer so I don't need to take as many book to reach our ~30 minutes reading aloud goal for the day!  And paperback so lightweight!  We have Go to Camp, Too Much Vacation, Pirate Adventure, Go on Vacation, and No Girls Allowed in our summer book basket

6) DogMan
Luke's been into DogMan for a few years now, was really into Wimpy Kid for awhile but now it back on DogMan for the summer.  It's usually what he's reading during our quiet reading time or before bed!

That's some things they've really been liking lately!  Happy summer!
